Bethesda is celebrating the holidays with the release of three new offers in the Fallout 76 Atomic Shop. While the items are certainly festive and offer players relatively unique content, many fans are unhappy about their cost. Specifically, fans on Reddit and elsewhere are saying that the new content offers are too expensive, even after price reductions.
The Holiday-Themed Offers in the Fallout 76 Atomic Shop
The Fallout 76 Atomic Shop hasn’t exactly had a smooth launch. No doubt many players would rather not have micro-transactions of any kind in the game. Although Bethesda has planned to adopt a new business model which uses funds from micro-transaction sales to fund the development of free DLC, a model which seemed to be generally positive for gamers, the actual Store has struggled to win many over. Indeed, many fans are complaining that items in the store are overpriced.
To mark the holidays, there are three new items and bundles currently available in the store. The Red Rocket Mega Sign is only available for a few more days. However, two bundles are available for the next two weeks; the Holidays Emote Bundle and the Bundle: Comin’ to Town. The Emote Bundle includes 12 different holiday-themed emotes. Meanwhile, the other bundle includes two costumes for Mr. Claus and Mrs. Claus, two festive Vault Boy icons, and a stuffed Radstag with a red nose which can be used as a C.A.M.P. decoration.
Moreover, both bundles currently have discounted prices; 50% off the Emote Bundle and 33% off Comin’ to Town. However, fans are still unhappy with the price. Going by the real-world cost of buying Atoms, the Emote Bundle alone costs around $15, factoring in the discount. The Comin’ to Town bundle comes closer to $20, also after the sale reduction. Needless to say, it’s easy to see why fans are unhappy. By comparison, the first DLC for Fallout 4; The Automatron, which featured an entire storyline with new items, new enemies and mechanics, and a robot customisation/building system, cost $10 at release. It’s unclear why Fallout 76 Atomic Shop items are often very expensive, but it seems unlikely that many fans will be investing in either of these holiday offers.
