While some of Fallout 76’s factions will be familiar to fans, like the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave, some are completely new. While factions like the Responders are quickly introduced to players, others can be difficult to find. The Fallout 76 Order of Mysteries faction is one such group. Those with a good knowledge of Fallout 4 lore may recognise the faction’s origins, as they are tied to the Mistress of Mystery comic series; one of the comics which was published alongside Silver Shroud.
How to Find the Fallout 76 Order of Mysteries Faction
The Fallout 76 Order of Mysteries has one of the most interesting quest-lines among the different factions, and even boasts some unique items. However, finding and joining the faction isn’t as easy as some of the others. To begin, you’ll need to make your way to Charleston. If you’ve already progressed through some of the game’s main quest, you may already know where the AVR Medical Center is. If not, it isn’t difficult to find in the ruins. Head north from the front door until you find an alleyway, wherein you’ll find the body of a “Young Woman”. This woman is fairly unremarkable, but when you loot her body, a message will play, and you’ll see an item in her inventory called a “Worn Veil.”
Take that veil from the body and then head for the Riverside Manor. This location, which is overrun with Scorched, is the base of the Order of Mysteries. Once you clear out the enemies lairing in the ruins, look for a terminal on the upper floor. Note that you can also find an amusing Easter egg in the manor referencing Bethesda’s changes to the series’ lore. On the main terminal, you will discover that the manor was home to Shannon Rivers. This woman was the voice actress of the Mistress of Mystery, one of the characters from the Silver Shroud radio show which featured in Fallout 4.
How to Join the Fallout 76 Order of Mysteries Faction
Now you’ll need to don the Worn Veil. With the veil on, go downstairs and find the parlour at the front of the manor. In one corner of the room you should see a screen, and if you approach while wearing the veil, it will open and reveal a staircase. Pass through the lasers and enter the manor’s bunker. There, you can use the Cryptos Terminal to register as an “Initiate” of the Order of Mysteries. It turns out that Shannon Rivers was the head of a secret society training women to be like the Mistress of Mystery. You can now use the bunker’s Fabricator Terminal to repair the Worn Veil. To start the Order of Mysteries quest-line, select the “Database Queries” option on the Cryptos Terminal. That will give you a quest to complete in Lewisburg, and when you return, you’ll start the full faction quest-line.
