How Pokemon GO Motivated A Generation To Go Out And Meet Friends
What makes Pokemon GO so famous? Is it because you get to catch your childhood favorite Pokemon or the fact that it’s a mobile game? A portion of its success was already secured for those reasons, however, there’s another one more important than anything, Pokemon GO tied a generation, made them put on their walking shoes and go meet new friends.
From its first day, Pokemon GO was all about getting active. In the summer of 2016, millions of players went out spinning Pokestop after Pokestop just to get the most out of the game. If you’ve been playing Pokemon GO that summer then you already know what I’m talking about.
Places with 2-3 Pokestops (or even more) became lure spots, with players joining their forces to catch the best Pokemon in the town. Even though all of us got spread into three teams, that didn’t make players greedy. Everyone shared the benches, lures, advice and small talking with other people during lure times. Even now, with trading available, Pokemon GO is still a game of collaboration.
As with any game, Pokemon GO too needs limits. Unlike other games though, this one encourages you to walk and find out new places, something that the younger of gamer generations didn’t do up until its release. After countless of hours on League of Legends, Counter Strike, Dota 2 etc, players are finally out. You” find them looking at their phones passing outside the city hall or turn around and go the other way because a Pikachu just appeared.
If you’ve been one of the lucky ones to be at the right place at the right time and hear someone scream at the top of his lungs that a Dragonite has appeared and the chaos of hundreds of people running towards the spot then you know what I mean. Take a look at what we mean:
As a generation spending time in front of a PC, we should give a big thanks to Pokemon GO, for giving players the opportunity to meet new friends and ride on a frenzy train that might never happen a game with a similar game. Remember Pokemon GO trainers, the best is yet to come out there.
