In Madden 22 Ultimate Team mode, gamers build their ideal squad, using various player cards they can buy or earn during the season. When the new Madden game launched on August 20, it allowed gamers to get started by adding various high-rated players. Those include the Rookie Premiere players that carried over from Madden 21 and the Team Captains. In this guide, see exactly how to get a Madden 22 team captain and upgrade them.
Which Ultimate Team captains are available?
There are four Madden 22 Team Captain players available in Ultimate Team mode. They include wide receiver Lance Alworth, strong safety John Lynch, halfback Shaun Alexander, left end Jack Youngblood. Three of the four captains are NFL Hall of Famers, with former cover star Shaun Alexander the only one who has yet to be inducted.
Each of these players has an 85 OVR Team Captain card you can add to your team with unique stats. Here are some of the top attributes for each of the captains when you get their cards.
Lance Alworth (Chargers) has 85 Deep Route Run, 85 Acceleration, 84 Spectacular Catch, 84 Speed, and 83 Catching.
Jack Youngblood (Rams) starts with 85 Power, 84 Awareness, 84 Play Recognition, 82 Acceleration, 81 Strength, and 81 Tackling.
Shaun Alexander (Seahawks) gets 85 Trucking, 84 Acceleration, 84 Carrying, 84 Break Tackle, and 82 Speed.
Last but not least, John Lynch (Buccaneers) brings 85 Power, 84 Acceleration, 83 Zone Coverage, 82 Speed, and 81 Agility.

How to Get a Madden 22 Team Captain and Upgrade Them
Once you’re in Madden’s Ultimate Team mode, navigate to the Missions section of the MUT Hub. Once there, select The Campaign to bring up the solo missions there. You’ll need to play up to Week 3 of The Campaign Challenges.
The Week 3 missions will include a tryout for each of the four Madden 22 Team Captain players. Play through all four of these tryout games for each captain, and you’ll earn a Team Captain Fantasy Pack. This pack gives you the option to pick one of the four players mentioned above.
Once you’ve got your team captain, you can upgrade the card from an 85 OVR to an 89 OVR. To do this, go to the “Upgrades” tab on your Team Captain’s player card. You’ll be able to upgrade for 5 Training Points per OVR. So for 20 Training Points, you can upgrade four tiers to get your player to 89 OVR.
There’s currently no option to trade for a new Team Captain in MUT, but this is likely coming in the future. So make your choice wisely to start the season.
