How to Use Fortnite Split-Screen Mode In Chapter 3

Fortnite split-screen mode is back in Chapter 3! Epic Games turned it off at the start of the new chapter, most likely to prevent performance issues. However, the v19.01 patch has re-enabled it and players can enjoy this co-operative mode once again!

Thanks to split-screen, two Fortnite players can team up while using only one console and one TV. The setup is very easy and players who are using the split-screen mode are also able to team up with other players. In this article, you can find a simple guide on how to set it up and play with your favorite teammate on the same console!

Fortnite split-screen setup guide

At the moment, Fortnite split-screen is available only on PlayStation and Xbox. It is not available on PC, mobile phones, or Nintendo Switch, although it may be added to these platforms in the future. Surprisingly, many players did not even know that this co-operative mode existed before the v19.01 patch was released!

The mode was first released in Chapter 2 – Season 1 and it has received several updates and improvements since then. Keep in mind, you can only play Fortnite Battle Royale in this mode. Other game modes, such as Save the World or Creative, are not currently supported.

This is how you can easily set it up:

  • Start Fortnite and go to the Main Menu
  • Turn on the second controller and log in to another Fortnite account with it
  • On the bottom of the screen, you will see the Triangle/Y button that will allow Player 2 to log in
  • Have Player 1 invite Player 2 to the lobby
  • Have fun!

As soon as you get into a match, the screen will be split into two halves. While this puts players at a disadvantage, there is no doubt that playing like this is very fun with the right teammate!

More information regarding the mode

If one player disconnects from a Fortnite split-screen match, the split-screen session will end. Furthermore, this screen will be active only in a match and it will not affect the lobby.

Players may only play the Battle Royale mode on one screen.

It is important that both players have the same language settings or the split-screen may not work. Since two players are using the same console, the mode requires a stable internet connection and it will not work properly in poor network conditions.
