How to Use Borderlands 3’s New Moxxtail Events Feature

Alongside the launch of the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC, Gearbox has also seen fit to add an all-new feature to Borderlands 3‘s ECHOcast Twitch Extension; Moxxtail Events. This new feature allows Twitch viewers to tip streamers with an all-new currency – Bits of Sugar – in order to trigger these events and grant the streamer a range of in-game buffs.

How to Trigger the Borderlands 3 Moxxtail Events

If you’re streaming Borderlands 3 and you want the new Moxxtail Events to be available, you’ll need to enable them, as well as set a threshold; this is the amount of Bits of Sugar which a viewer will need to donate in order to trigger one of the events. Bits of Sugar are a new form of Twitch currency exclusive to Borderlands 3, of equal value to Twitch Bits. If Moxxtail Events are enabled on a stream, then whenever a viewer donates enough Bits of Sugar to pass the triggering threshold, one of the events will automatically start.

When this happens, Moxxi will present the audience with a tip jar, prompting everybody else to also make donations; the more donations which are poured into the tip jar from the audience, the more powerful the in-game effect will be at the end of the event. The buffs granted by the “Moxxtail” have 5 tiers of strength, with the amount of donations corresponding to which tier the buff will be. While the tip jar is active, it will track three people; whomever has donated the most Bits of Sugar, who made the last donation, and who made the first one.

Once Moxxi finishes collecting tips, she presents a random selection of ingredients. There are ten ingredients in total. However, only a few will be available in any event for the audience to vote on. Whichever proves the most popular will apply its corresponding buff to the resultant Moxxtail. Additionally, the second most popular ingredient will also apply its own buff, though at a lower strength. Once the audience votes, Moxxi will mix the drink and cause a chest to spawn in-game. This chest is where the streamer can collect their Moxxtail from. The ten ingredients which can go into a Moxxtail, and their corresponding buffs, are as follows:

  • Cream of Kapow: Increased Fire Rate
  • Drub Soda: Increased Elemental Damage
  • Gamaretto: Increased Gun Damage
  • Hey Sugar: Reduced Action Skill Cooldown
  • Kill-you-a: Increased Ammo Regen
  • Quadruple Sec: Increased Health Regen
  • Rakk Vermouth: Increased Max Shield
  • Skagnac: Increased Critical Damage
  • Sonic Water: Increased Elemental Damage Chance
  • Varkid Bitters: Increased Max Health
