Jordan Binnington Gets NHL 20 All-Star Boost, Wins Save Streak Challenge in EA TOTY Mask

Goalkeeper Jordan Binnington showed just why he’s an NHL 20 All-Star during Friday night’s Skills competition. The hometown favorite wore a special EA mask as he put on an impressive performance between the pipes. Binnington claimed the 2020 Save Streak Challenge even stopping a potential goal by a fake Justin Bieber in St. Louis.

Jordan Binnington wins Skills contest to get NHL 20 All-Star card boost

Ahead of the annual All-Star Game, the NHL 20 All-Star Skills contests took place on Friday night in St. Louis. The competitions include Fastest Skater, Accuracy Shooting, and Save Streak with the stars of the divisions on display.

The latter of these contests, Save Streak, has been in place since 2018 when Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights won the inaugural contest. Fleury made 14 saves in that first edition. Henrik Lundqvist claimed it last year as a member of the New York Rangers with 12 saves.

This year’s contest went to the hometown favorite as the St. Louis Blues’ Jordan Binnington stopped 10 shots to win the Bud Light Save Streak. With the skills contest win, it means Binnington’s HUT All-Star card in NHL 20 will get a ratings boost. Per EA’s promotion, it means the Binnington card will have two skills ratings go up to 99.

Part of the competition included some comic relief as Tomas Hertl of the San Jose Sharks put on a Justin Bieber mask for his attempt at a goal. The bit was due to Bieber challenging Binnington to a breakaway challenge. The Blues goalie promised to die his hair “platinum blonde” if Bieber could score on him just once.

So far, the challenge has yet to happen but based on Binnington’s Skills contest win, that seems like a tough bet for Bieber to win.

Binnington wears EA TOTY mask for contest

In celebration of EA’s NHL 20 game, Jordan Binnington was also wearing a special mask on Friday night. It’s an NHL 20 Team of the Year mask in recognition of him making the six-player squad for 2020.

Pictured below is a look at the mask complete with yellow-gold and black details. The top features a unique symbol with “Team of the Year” across the side area. On the lower area of the front of the mask, EA NHL 20 appears.

Shortly after Binnington won the Save Streak contest, EA Sports NHL Twitter sent out a congratulatory tweet showing off the mask.

Joining Binnington on the NHL 20 Team of the Year were Brent Burns, John Carlson, Nikita Kucherov, Alex Ovechkin, and Connor McDavid. The other players received special golden TOTY skates in recognition of them making the squad.

Of those players, McDavid, Carlson, and Binnington will all participate in this weekend’s All-Star Game. Kucherov and Burns were not selected for the game. Ovechkin, despite being named a captain for the Metropolitan Division team, decided not to participate in order to rest.

Should those players score goals, be part of the winning team, or win the MVP for the game, their NHL 20 HUT All-Star cards will get ratings boosts.

The NHL All-Star Game 2020 edition takes place from St. Louis on Saturday, January 25.
