Jump Force Controversial Inclusion of ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ Causes Debate

Anime and fighting fans alike are more than looking forward to Jump Force. The upcoming game from publisher’s Bandai Namco. The combination of favorite anime characters from Shonen Jump, as well as some fun, flashy fighting skills, is enough to make any fan feel excited. However, there is one inclusion that has left folks reeling: the Rurouni Kenshin characters.

Unlike other complaints about characters is in Jump Force, this issue doesn’t rise from the characters themselves. But the inclusion of them in the first place.  The addition of Rurouni Kenshin has sparked major debate. Leaving some wondering whether they should buy the game in the first place.

This controversy is due to the Rurouni Kenshin creator, Nobuhiro Watsuki, being convicted of possessing child pornography.

Rurouni Kenshin Controversy in Jump Force

This news comes from ComicBook, who became aware of the controversy on Twitter.

Watsuki was convicted of possessing child porn earlier in the year and has been fined 200,00 yen. For those who aren’t aware, that is just about 2K in USD and even less in GBP. It’s an act that often leads to jail for possessing such vile things. With Watsuki practically getting away with it, it is no wonder fans are pretty angry that his work is being included.

Watsuki has resumed his work on Rurouni Kenshin, but in the US his series is still on an indefinite hiatus.

As for Bandai Namco, they have not made any comment on whether Rurouni Kenshin will be removed from the game or not. If I had to guess, I’d say it seems unlikely to happen. Which leaves fans to decide: will they buy this game, or will they walk away? Only time will tell. Regardless, it seems there are no real winners here.
