Latest Resident Evil 2 Remake Trailer Focuses on Story and Characters

Previous trailers for Capcom’s highly anticipated Resident Evil 2 remake have focused mostly on showing off snippets of gameplay, but the newest trailer which Capcom unveiled as part of its Tokyo Game Show presentation provides a bit more context for new fans. Specifically, the trailer introduces several of the remake’s main characters while also teasing some of the story events players will encounter while trying to survive the night in the zombie-infested Raccoon City.

Claire is clearly not having the best of days.

Specifically, the trailer puts the spotlight on the game’s two playable protagonists, Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, as well as important side-character such as Sherry Birkin and the mysterious Ada Wong (confirming the updated look that Ada was seen sporting in a recently leaked image). Along with the character spotlights, the trailer includes plenty of story content, showing that neither of Sherry’s parents are in the best of places (something which dedicated fans likely knew already) and that, at least in the remake, zombies are actually referred to as zombies.

For those who already played the original Resident Evil 2 way back in the day, none of what’s seen in the trailer is entirely new, though it’s still nice to see it play out in a modern game engine. It should also be noted that the “zapping” technique from the original game is being done away with. In the remake, Claire’s and Leon’s campaigns will be entirely unique, as evidenced by the bit in the trailer where Claire apparently arrives at the Raccoon City Police Station after Leon has already been there.

Along with the above trailer, you can also check out a series of new screenshots for the remake courtesy of this new Capcom blog post.

The Resident Evil 2 remake is set to launch on January 25, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
