Madden 19 Challenge Pits WWE Stars Samoa Joe, The Miz Versus Melvin Gordon, Derwin James

It’s never a surprise when athletes from different sports show one another respect for their chosen sports. However, it gets real when players from different sports worlds try to challenge athletes in a different sport. A Madden 19 challenge took place recently as two of WWE’s superstars battled it out on the virtual field with two of the real-life Los Angeles Chargers.

Madden 19 Challenge: WWE stars vs. NFL stars

Former WWE Champion The Miz teamed up with the “Samoan Bulldozer” Samoa Joe for one pair of Madden teammates. On the opposing side, it was two of the NFL’s Chargers with rookie safety Derwin James and star running back Melvin Gordon teaming up. That’s quite a group of talent put together too.

The Miz and Samoa Joe each have been champions in the world of professional wrestling. The Miz is an eight-time Intercontinental Champion, two-time United States Champion, six-time tag team champion, and former WWE Champion. Samoa Joe is known for his days in TNA where he captured numerous titles including the Television, X Division, and World Heavyweight. He’s also a two-time WWE NXT Champion.

Both Chargers players qualified for the NFL Pro-Bowl this season. Gordon racked up 885 yards and 10 touchdowns this season for the Chargers. His rookie teammate received high praise for his defensive skills and looks to be a star in the league for seasons to come. These two players are part of a Chargers team in the postseason right now and that’s part of the recent Madden NFL Playoffs event.

So these guys have clearly got the skills in the ring and on the field. However, they put these NFL stars to the test virtually against two trash-talking WWE stars. Fellow WWE superstar Xavier Woods of The New Day takes over the hosting since after all he runs his own gaming channel UpUpDownDown on YouTube.

One thing The Miz clearly knows is trash talking, but so do a lot of professional athletes. However, it’s clear Miz was able to be loudest in the room. That said, would he and Samoa Joe have a chance as actual NFL players? Probably not at this stage in their lives, but there have been plenty of other WWE superstars who got their starts on the gridiron, and there are likely to be more!

That said, it’s clear that the NFL stars also know Madden based on the final result. Still, it’s great to see athletes and celebrities from different sports getting together for the fun of gaming. It should be interesting to see who else might get involved in the Madden 19 challenge as the NFL playoff games continue forth.
