Madden 21 Cover Athlete Predictions: Five Potential Cover Stars to Represent the Game

EA’s Madden 21 may seem like it’s far from release, but that doesn’t mean gamers aren’t already contemplating the future. The NFL 2020 season will feature intriguing storylines as new rising stars have emerged on the gridiron. We think one of those stars is very likely to be the next Madden 21 cover athlete. Here we present our picks for who might be on the game in 2020.

Madden 21 cover athlete predictions: Who will follow in Patrick Mahomes’ footsteps?

By now, football fans know the story. Patrick Mahomes was Madden 20 cover star and the Madden curse was seemingly defeated. Mahomes led his Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory and showed why he should represent Madden and the NFL. Now, someone has to take the cover to follow in his footsteps.

Lamar Jackson – The clear choice and top prediction. It’s no secret that he was making waves in the game this past season. The Ravens’ young leader set the single-season rushing yards record for a quarterback, surpassing Michael Vick, a former cover star. Jackson also nabbed the NFL MVP Award and was amongst the most popular in the game, both real and virtual. So don’t be surprised when a smiling Lamar Jackson in purple Ravens gear is on the Madden 21 cover.

Derrick Henry – Another rising star in the game, Henry’s popularity surged just as his impressive rushing stats and Madden rating did this past season. At the game’s launch, he was just an 83 overall, but by the end of the season, his performances including the Titans’ playoff run had him at a 91 OVR. If Madden 21 cover doesn’t feature Jackson, Derrick Henry seems like the next-best option.

Three other contenders for cover star

Michael Thomas – We’ve named a quarterback and halfback, but how about a receiver? None impressed more than the Saints’ Michael Thomas this past season. Thomas had career-highs with 149 receptions, 1,725 yards, and 107.8 yards per game. His receptions number set a new NFL single-season record. In addition, Thomas moved into the Madden 99 Club this past season, making him a smart choice to represent Madden 21.

Christian McCaffrey – Yet another new 99 Club member in the past season, McCaffrey was in the MVP discussion during the season. Once Cam Newton was injured, it was the young halfback who seemed to be keeping the Panthers competitive. In just his second season, McCaffrey was named to the All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams as well.

Aaron Donald – So far, we’ve named only offensive players and mostly the younger, rising stars of the NFL. The Ram’s Aaron Donald is a proven defensive stud in the league and the only player who started and ended the season in the 99 Club.

Donald is a six-time Pro Bowler, five-time All-Pro, and two-time Defensive Player of the Year. His resume speaks volumes. It also makes him a prime candidate to take over the Madden 21 cover just like he can take over games with his intimidating defensive presence.
