Madden 21 Player Ratings Update: Tom Brady, Juan Thornhill Get Boosts Before Super Bowl LV

Super Bowl LV is just around the corner, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs ready to do battle on the gridiron. Both teams claimed victories in their respective conference championship games this past Sunday. That has led to boosts for certain players in a Madden 21 player ratings update. Among them is one of the G.O.A.T.s in quarterback Tom Brady, and recent defensive star Juan Thornhill.

Brady gets upgrade in Madden 21 player ratings, Rodgers down

Just a few years ago, Tom Brady graced the cover of Madden NFL 18, including the G.O.A.T. Edition. The year before that, it was his New England Patriots teammate, Rob Gronkowski on the cover. Now both players are back in the Super Bowl, but this time playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady continues to defy the laws of time, as he is once again set to compete for the Lombardi Trophy. In the NFC Championship Game, Brady was 20-for-36 passing to finish with 280 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-26 win over Green Bay.

His performance got the Bucs into the Super Bowl and earned the 43-year-old field general a boost in the Madden 21 player ratings update. Mr. Brady is up a point now to a 96 overall in the video game, as tweeted by EA’s Madden.

The Madden 21 player ratings were less kind to the losing quarterback and his cornerback. Based on EA’s report, Aaron Rodgers had the better statistical game, but a loss is a loss. That was apparently enough for the ratings adjustor to move the frontrunner to win NFL MVP down one point to a 95 OVR.

In addition, Packers cornerback Kevin King dropped by two points. The adjustment was due to King failing to adequately cover the Bucs’ Scotty Miller and for his late-game penalty in the fourth quarter. King is now a 74 OVR in the Madden ratings.

Thornhill, Wirfs also get boosts

One of the men helping to protect Tom Brady from defensive attacks also got a Madden 21 player ratings boost. Rookie tackle Tristan Wirfs received boosts in several of his key attributes. That included a five-point move up for Run Blocking Power and a three-point boost for Pass Blocking. Overall, Wirfs went up by two points to become an 88 OVR ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.

The Bucs’ opponents for Super Bowl 2021 will be 99 Club member Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, as they look to defend their championship. Helping out their cause in the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills was safety Juan Thornhill. He moves up a point on his Awareness, Man Coverage, and Play Recognition, which all led to his ratings boost to 79 OVR.

Of course, all three of the above players will put it all out there on the field when Super Bowl arrives in a few weekends. It’s set to take place in Tampa, with the Buccaneers the first team in NFL history to play in the Super Bowl at their home.

While many believe the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady is going to reign supreme, it’s difficult to count out the Madden 20 cover star Patrick Mahomes. His Chiefs opened as the three-point favorites, setting up quite the clash. Super Bowl LV takes place Sunday, February 7, at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
