MLB The Show 21 Cover Star, Release Date, PlayStation & Xbox Pre-Order Details Revealed

Fernando Tatis Jr. has been making a name for himself in Major League Baseball with the San Diego Padres in just a few seasons. He’ll now grace the cover of the biggest baseball video game around. Tatis was revealed as MLB The Show 21 cover star on Monday, with the official release date also announced. In addition, pre-order details for the popular sports simulation game have arrived online for fans of the franchise.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is heading into his third season in MLB and is already one of the rising stars of the game. His young career includes a .301 batting average, 39 home runs, 168 hits, 98 RBI, and 27 stolen bases along with a Silver Slugger award. As he heads into the new season, he can also add MLB The Show 21 cover star to the resume.

MLB Twitter presented the new cover on Monday, February 1. It shows off the San Diego Padres star in a cool pose featuring a bat flip and classic pointing gesture. The video below features a highlight reel of Tatis at the plate and in the field along with your first look at the new cover.

Fernando Tatis Jr. follows in the footsteps of Chicago Cubs star Javier Baez, the cover star for MLB The Show 20. Previous cover stars for the game included Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, Ken Griffey Jr., and Josh Donaldson.

Game trailer, release date, & pre-orders

Along with the video clip above showing off the cover, there’s also a new MLB The Show 21 trailer showing more from the Padres Star.

“Pardon the interruption to your scheduled content,” Tatis narrates over the video. “I’ve been asked to apologize for changing the game.”

From there, the 22-year-old talks about how he’s apparently “been breaking the unwritten rules of baseball.”

As far as the San Diego Studios game’s release, there’s great news for Xbox fans. MLB The Show 21 will release for Microsoft game consoles in 2021. That includes Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. It marks the first year that the typically Playstation-only game arrives for Xbox.

It’ll also be available for PlayStation 4 and PS5 consoles, so it’s also the first time the game is officially announced for the next-generation consoles. The game’s official release date is April 20, 2021.

Physical and digital copies will be available. There’s a Current Gen Standard Edition for $59.99 and a Next-Gen Standard Edition for $69.99. In addition, details for MLB The Show 21 Collector’s Editions arrive on February 3, 2021.
