With the NBA 2K19 title now out for almost a year, the popular basketball simulation game is heavily discounted in price. There may not be quite as many gamers enjoying the title or its features like NBA 2K19 MyTeam, but 2K appears to be trying to generate extra revenue from those who are using it. A recent batch of NBA 2K19 unskippable ads have popped up in the game, bringing complaints from the community. Luckily, there is a way to get rid of them from interrupting the game experience.
Commercials arrive in 2K basketball title
When starting up a new game in NBA 2K19, fans usually have to wait as the game loads. Normally, an episode of NBA 2KTV plays as this happens. Gamers are able to watch that episode and answer multiple choice questions throughout to earn virtual currency. There are also the options to skip the NBA 2K TV episode. One option is to go to the pre-game show with Ernie Johnson, Shaq, and Kenny Smith. The other is to go to edit game lineups and matchups.
This past weekend, a Reddit thread surfaced detailing some new NBA 2K19 unskippable ads that have been appearing in the game. Based on what the Reddit thread creator mentions, there is an NBA 2K19 unskippable ad that gamers are forced to watch even after the game has finished loading.
In the tweet below, one gamer shows off one of the unskippable TV series ads in the game. In particular, it appears they are promoting the upcoming season of the hit show “Snowfall” on FX.
That Reddit thread now has over 900 comments, most of which are expressing frustration and outright anger over what 2K19 is doing. A lot of gamers are already unhappy with how much money microtransactions can involve in the game. Add in that, and the NBA 2K19 unskippable ads aren’t really improving matters.
Commenter bobbridges34 says, “Ads on free mobile games is one thing. I’ve already paid for this s—t. Not cool.”
The commenter dramaticpotatoes says, “Sell the game at $3 price point to get an influx of players so they can pull this s—t. Such a predatory company…”
DellyTrey23 mentions, “The cycle is the same every year. People scream ‘DONT BUY THE NEXT 2K THAT WILL SHOW THEM’ then buy the game and spend extra money on it. Rinse and repeat.”
Keep in mind, those gamers who originally bought the game may have paid $59.99 or more for the higher-end editions. So they have a valid point about being forced to watch ads.
How to get rid of NBA 2K19 Unskippable Ads
Gamers can easily get rid of those NBA 2K19 unskippable ads but it involves disabling the NBA 2KTV feature. This is the feature that pops up as the game loads and shows the latest episode of 2KTV as you wait. To shut it off, scroll over on the top menu to “Options/Features.” Choose the Settings area of that menu. Scroll down to the setting for “Watch 2KTV While Loading.” Switch that to “Off” and you should be ad-free now!

Gamers can always go to the NBA 2KTV section of the menu if they want to watch the latest episode. Otherwise, turning that off via the settings will help avoid those otherwise unskippable NBA 2K19 ads.
Recently, the NBA 2K19 game went on sale for a super low price of just $2.99. That price comes as fans of the annual 2K basketball title realize that 2K20 is just around the corner. It appears 2K may be trying to generate additional revenue with these TV ads while selling copies at a lower price. Add that to the microtransactions system and gamers are fuming over the high cost to enjoy the top basketball sim.
