NBA 2K20 Players Tournament Results: First Round Winners Include Trae Young, Patrick Beverly

The first round of the NBA 2K20 Players Tournament tipped off on Friday night with four games on the schedule. That included top seed Kevin Durant in action as well as No. 2 seed Trae Young. However, several upsets already arrived with four players showing early on they may be the ones to beat. Here’s a look at the entire first round results for Friday, April 3.

NBA 2K20 Players Tournament results: No. 1 seed Durant gets upset

The first big story of the NBA 2K20 Tournament was that No. 1 seed Kevin Durant lost in the first game of the event. Durant was seeded No. 1 due to his NBA 2K20 rating. However, that appears to be meaningless in this tournament as No. 16 seed Derrick Jones Jr., playing as the Milwaukee Bucks, defeated KD playing as the Los Angeles Clippers 78-62.

The tournament game (see video highlights) featured the two players talking about a variety of topics related to basketball, the suspended, season, and the 2K video game.

Derrick Jones Jr. will await the winner of Sunday’s matchup between No. 8 seed Montrezl Harrell and No. 9 seed Domantas Sabonis.

DeAndre Ayton defeats Zach LaVine

In the second game of the night, the Phoenix Suns’ DeAndre Ayton took on the Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine. Ayton chose to play as the Houston Rockets, while LaVine used the Miami Heat in a surprising first-round move. During the game, the two players talked about a variety of topics including Ayton admitting he’s played the game since 2K9.

That experience came in hand.y In the end, Ayton showed his skills on the sticks, pulling away to get the 59-41 win on 2K20.

Trae Young destroys Harrison Barnes in Players Tournament game

The No. 2 seed Trae Young wasn’t about to suffer the same fate as Kevin Durant in the first round. Young took the Milwaukee Bucks as his first choice in the tournament and went up against No. 15 seed Harrison Barnes who was using the Toronto Raptors.

When all was said and done, Trae took down Barnes in dominant fashion, 101-59. Young moves on to play DeAndre Ayton in the only quarterfinals matchup set so far.

Patrick Beverly puts on NBA 2K20 clinic vs. Hassan Whiteside

The final matchup of the night featured No. 14 seed, Patrick Beverly, as the Milwaukee Bucks against No. 3 seed Hassan Whiteside using the Los Angeles Lakers. Beverly is known for being quite a trash talker in the league and Whiteside isn’t a slouch in that department.

Ahead of the game, Beverly talked about his skills on ESPN’s SportsCenter. Beverly won Paul George’s celebrity tournament before and admitted when he was overseas for five years he was playing 2K constantly. He said he’s the one to beat in the NBA 2K20 Players Tournament despite his low overall seed.

By halftime, a rout was on as Pat Beverly was showing the skills. He held a 21-point lead over Hassan Whiteside. However, the trash talk going on during the matchup was the best part of it. Beverly was quite at first until he built a dominant lead and then became much more vocal.

Beverly kept talking through the second half as he continued to pour it on. He was up 30 points with a minute to go. When all was said and done, Pat Beverly backed up his trash-talking as he picked up a convincing victory, 84-54. He’ll take on the winner of DeMarcus Cousins vs. Andre Drummond.

The next four games for the first round will take place on Sunday, April 5, with ESPN2 providing live TV coverage and WatchESPN providing the live stream.
