NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Cover Star is Zion Williamson

A man considered to be the future of the NBA once LeBron James has left the league will officially grace the NBA 2K21 next-gen cover. New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will appear on the front of the game for the upcoming Sony PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X platforms. A special reveal video arrived on July 1 to present the latest cover star to 2K fans.

The NBA 2K folks have been utilizing the newer social media platform TikTok to reveal their game covers. Just a day ago, the current-gen cover star reveal arrived as Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard appeared in a video. Now, rookie Zion Williamson gets the honor for the second reveal. In a quick TikTok video featuring What’s Poppin by Jack Harlow, we see a profile of the cover star with introductory words on the screen before he turns and flexes.

Soon after, we get a first look at the cover for the next-generation version of the game. That will arrive for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The blue NBA 2K21 next-gen cover shows Williamson soaring for a one-handed dunk in the forefront with a two-handed dunk in the background.

Williamson previously appeared in the first-look PS5 announcement trailer for the upcoming game. It was a brief clip but gave gamers a glimpse of the next-gen graphics and gameplay.

Right now, Williamson is preparing for the NBA’s return to Orlando, where he and the New Orleans Pelicans will try to snag the No. 8 seed out West. However, Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies currently hold that spot, so Zion and company will need to step it up.

In addition, the NBA Rookie of the Year race has been dominated by Morant, but Zion has a chance to really impress when the NBA returns.

How and when to get next-gen 2K game

We’ve seen the NBA 2K21 next-gen cover. However, as of right now, no official release date has been provided for the NBA 2K21 game on the next-gen PlayStation or Xbox consoles.

There’s a listed pre-order date of July 2 for NBA 2K21, but so far we don’t know the particulars. Most likely, that will be the date gamers can start pre-ordering copies of the basketball sim game for the current-gen consoles.

We know that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles arrive towards the holiday season. Therefore, it’s possible the NBA 2K21 next-gen edition will be available around then, or thereafter.

We’ve also seen EA offering a Dual Entitlement program. That will allow gamers to upgrade copies of games like Madden 21 and FIFA 21 from current-gen to next-gen, free of charge.

We’ve yet to see official details on that from Sony, Microsoft, or 2K, but they could arrive July 2 with pre-order details.
