New Metal Gear Solid V Update Makes Quiet Playable in FOB Missions

It has been nearly a year since Konami’s open-world shooter game Metal Gear Solid V was last updated, and yet that hasn’t stopped the studio from quietly toiling away on a brand new game update which is now live. The update itself isn’t very substantial, but it does have one very interesting new feature: a playable version of the mute NPC sniper known as Quiet.

Within the lore of Metal Gear Solid V, Quiet is a gifted sniper who had parasitic experiments performed on her. The experiments granted her superhuman speed and perception along with the ability to turn invisible, but as a tradeoff she now has to breathe through her skin (this is meant to explain why she purposefully dresses in such skimpy clothing since normal clothes would literally suffocate her). As part of the standard MSGV story campaign, Quiet can also be recruited as an NPC ally who accompanies the player on missions, assisting them from afar using her sniping skills.

Players can now wield Quiet's awesome power.

Thanks to the new game update, MGSV players can now play as Quiet when undertaking FOB missions, and along with her sniping skills they can also utilize her full suite of superhuman powers. Quiet can employ both lethal and non-lethal sniper rifles with minimal scope sway to dispatch enemies at a distance, leap up to high ledges that would normally require a ladder to reach, sprint and dash at high speeds, and turn invisible by standing still. Sadly, unlike the default Venom Snake character, Quiet’s head and outfit can’t be customized, but that’s a small price to pay in order to wield her awesome superhuman abilities.

Along with the playable version of Quiet, the update also adds in new hard versions of Event FOB missions that award bonus resources as well as five brand new items that players can develop and utilize in their FOB mission playthroughs. The five items include both lethal and non-lethal versions of the new ‘Renov-Ickx bis’ sniper rifle, a ‘Dark Matter Generator’ grenade, a non-lethal stun version of the Dark Matter Generator, and an ‘Energy Wall’ personal shield that can absorb a certain number of enemy attacks.
