NHL 19 Team Of The Year Young Guns Revealed Including Conor McDavid, Auston Matthews

Each week, NHL 19 brings out player cards for their Hockey Ultimate Team of the Week. These have included some of the top stars on the ice based on real-world NHL performances. As of March 13, NHL 19 unveiled their Team of the Year Young Guns squad, and it’s quite stacked. Among the high-rated stars that gamers will find in packs is Conor McDavid and Auston Matthews. Here are more details on this brand new HUT promotion.

NHL 19 Team of the Year Young Guns: McDavid, Matthews headline

On Tuesday, the EA Sports NHL Twitter teased the announcement of the Team of the Year. Wednesday brought a promotional video to show off some of the stars included in the “Young Guns” TOTY and how much they’ve upgraded in terms of OVRs. The Young Guns are players who are 23-and-under that are doing exceptional in the league.

Right off the bat in the hype video, we see NHL All-Star Conor McDavid. The Edmonton Oilers star was among the top 10 players on the ratings when the game first arrived, and he’s continued his impressive work. He leads the team in assists with 64 and is tied for second in the league for points with 98. His Oilers aren’t quite in playoff contention, but he’s deserving of this spot. As part of TOTY, he moves from an 87 OVR to a 99 now for a great upgrade to HUT rosters.

It’s no surprise to see Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews on this team either. Matthews has been amongst the league’s top goal scorers during the season. He now sits within the league’s top 25. The Maple Leafs’ center is second to only fellow Toronto center John Tavares on the team in goals. Matthews also ranks fourth in total assists for the team.

NHL 19 Team of the Year Young Guns full roster of players

Another tweet from the EA NHL account gives us a closer look at all of the available TOTY players based on positions. A total of six different players sporting 99 OVR cards are available. They include three forwards. There’s McDavid, along with Nathan MacKinnon and Mitchell Marner. Defenders Thomas Chabot and Rasmus Dahlin are also 99, as well as goalie Carter Hart.

So who’s missing? A number of gamers are already pointing out the exclusion of Chicago Blackhawks leftwing Alex Debrincat. The 2016 NHL Draft pick scored 65 goals since 2017-18. His omission is definitely a curious one, and one that gamers aren’t letting NHL 19 off the hook for.

Another interesting thing worth mentioning is that the video and tweet photo for the Young Guns TOTY show different OVRs for the Brayden Point card. One lists him as a 97 while the other has Point as a 99.

NHL 19 Team of the Year Defensive stars

A total of five “defensive” Young Guns were also revealed in addition to the TOTY above. These are other players who excelled defensively on the ice, including three forwards. The Florida Panthers’ Aleksander Barkov leads the way here. The Panthers forward brings the 99 OVR card which includes 99 for Skating and Defensive along with 98s for Handling and Checking. Joining him are the Red Wings Dylan Larkin (97) and Flames’ Matthew Tkachuk (95).

The new Team of the Year Young Guns are available in HUT packs through March 20, but based on what we see above they seem well worth the investment. It should be interesting to see what other player cards drop in conjunction with this promotion if any.
