No Single-Player In Black Ops 4 May Be Due To MW2 Remastered Releasing This Year
There have been a ton of Call Of Duty rumors making the rounds as of late. From an alleged report that suggests that the upcoming Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch sans a single-player campaign, to the exciting possibility of a brand-new Battle Royale mode that may be included as a stand-in for the aforementioned lack of single-player content, to the possibility of new modes being implemented that could be a lot like Overwatch. Long story short, the Call Of Duty rumor mill is turning in full swing, though we may have an extra piece of intel to add fuel to the fire.
Earlier in the year, Amazon Italy leaked the potential release of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, which is slated to release later this year. According to a source close to Charlie Intel, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered would cost around $25, which is a lot lower than what Activision charged for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered in 2017, $40”. Apparently, that’s because, “having the price cut almost in half for the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered would support that the game is not the full game remastered.”
Essentially, it’s rumored that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be missing the fan-favourite multiplayer portion of the package. Since this rumor has been percolating, Kotaku has also confirmed (during a KindaFunnyGames stream) that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be campaign only.
With evidence mounting that suggests Black Ops 4 will launch without a traditional single-player campaign, along with the information that hints at both a lower price-point and a lack of multiplayer for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, perhaps Activision could be trying to cover all their bases with separate game releases? Maybe Activision think that giving fans the option to choose what they personally prefer to play is the best way forward for the series?
As a result, those fans who are interested in a Call Of Duty single-player campaign may gravitate towards the remaster of Modern Warfare 2, while fans of the multiplayer/co-op portions of the game will instead be given the option to opt for Black Ops 4 and its newly integrated Battle Royale mode? Of course, whether this will be a good idea or not remains to be seen.
Frankly, it’s pretty much conjecture at this point in time as Activision’s only official statement in regards to the recent rumors has been the vague and noncommittal: “We don’t comment on rumor and speculation. We look forward to revealing Black Ops 4 on May 17th.”
Though evidence suggests that Black Ops 4 will be multiplayer-centric and that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be focused on single-player only, for now, we’d suggest to take these rumors with a grain of salt.
