Octopath Traveler Sells Over 1 Million Units

Octopath Traveler has had quite the shoes to fill when it released on July 13th this year. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still considered one of the best RPGs on the Nintendo Switch, so Square Enix’s team really was risking everything when they brought back the classic, turn-based JRPG that they were known for with their Final Fantasy games. That said, it looks like it was a risk that paid off as it has been recently announced that Octopath Traveler has sold over 1 million units worldwide.

While Lost Sphear didn’t seem to capture the hearts and minds of JRPG fans, Octopath Traveler has done so well that not only did Square Enix have to apologize only once for not having enough stock, but twice. So, to say that Octopath Traveler exceeded even Square’s expectations is possibly the biggest understatement of the year.

Unfortunately, despite how well the game seems to have done with the world, it doesn’t seem as though Octopath Traveler will be receiving any future content. This is due to the game being between 80-100 hours long (including side quests) and thus, Square feels as though the game is very much complete and doesn’t need any additional content that the vanilla game doesn’t already provide. Of course some players, who can’t seem to get enough of Octopath Traveler, may disagree.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t be see anything else from Square’s newest hit. While there may not be any future DLC for the game, it is possible that a sequel may be in the works as Square did say it the possibility of creating one would be dependent on sales.
