PlayStation CEO Explains Why PS5 Digital Edition is Hard to Find

Struggling to find a PS5 digital edition to order? It is pretty hard to come by pre-orders for either version of the next gen console, but the digital edition is experiencing the biggest supply problems. If you have been wondering why the PS5 digital edition is hard to find, there is an explanation.

Here is Why the PS5 Digital Edition is Hard to Find

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan discussed the issues with supply and demand with AV Watch. The interview was translated by VGC with Ryan saying, “The ratio between the Digital Edition and the disc drive model is currently something we cannot disclose at this time. We cannot give specific information on numbers, but we can say that we plan to produce the necessary number of units to meet the demand for that model type. However, we’ve never produced two different console models at the same time before so deciding on the right number and the right ratio is very hard to know. We are doing our best to predict demand.”

It is an understandable situation. Sony is new to this, and as a result, underestimated how many buyers were going to want the less expensive digital-only version of the console. So, now they are going to have to catch up with demand.

The higher demand for the digital-only edition of the console also makes us wonder if an all-digital age is growing closer after all. But if the regular version of the console is still a huge seller, that could make the case that players still want their physical discs. And that does seem inevitable, even if the digital-only version comes out ahead.

We will do our best to keep you apprised of the rises and falls in supply and demand for both versions of the PS5. Pre-orders are still very hard to come by, so keep a close eye on your inbox if you signed up for alerts. Follow our PlayStation news for more.
