PlayStation France Website Stated that PS5 Controller is Compatible with PS4

If you are holding off on purchasing a PlayStation 5—or you will be hanging onto your PS4 even after you do—you might like the idea of being able to use a PS5 controller with your PS4. It certainly would reduce your reliance on finding old controllers for sale. Now, there is one indication that the PS5 controller and the PlayStation 4 console could be compatible, and it comes from an unlikely source: PlayStation itself.

Could the PS5 Controller Be Compatible with PS4?

PlayStation France has a webpage which lists a bunch of technical information on PlayStation 4 consoles. If you scroll down to where it lists DualShock compatibility in the table, you will notice that all three columns currently list DS4.

But previously, both DS4 and DS5 were listed in those spaces, not just DS4. Then, after it started getting around that both controllers were listed as compatible, the website removed the references to the DS5 (DualShock 5, we assume).

So, we are left wondering what it means that DS5 and DS4 were both listed on PlayStation France’s page as being compatible with PS4. Was the listing correct? Did Sony pull down the information because we are not supposed to know about it yet? Or was it a mistake? Is that why the information is now gone? Also, is it possible that Sony itself isn’t sure yet whether the two will be compatible? Did someone simply jump the gun and assume they would be?

Whatever the case may be, hopefully there will be an update soon in a more official, less ambiguous capacity. If so, we will share it with you in our PlayStation news section. But as you wait, you can take a look at some photos which were leaked of what could be the PlayStation 5 controller
