Wireless PlayStation VR Headset Patented by Sony

Virtual Reality is a technology that continues to improve. In fact, its integration in gaming has led many people to believe this is the future of gaming. While the technology is far from being accessible enough; VR technology has become more ambitious by the minute. Proof of this is the latest patent made by Sony for their PlayStation VR.

As informed by PlayStation Lifestye; J-PlayPat has discovered a new patent filed by Sony. First off, this patent showcases a Wireless PlayStation VR. Additionally, it uses a new band determination device and frequency band determination method to allow the PlayStation system to figure out the location of the user’s movements.

The patent isn’t clear enough for the casual reader. According to it, the PS4 could have a “program capable of switching a frequency band used for communication earlier than before according to a change in an environment in which a communication device or a communication partner is placed.” Obviously, the picture below explains the whole thing better.

Let’s make clear that patents don’t always mean a full commercial product was made. In fact, various patents have been registered to protect the work made by developers. In other words, as futuristic as the technology seems, it’s still a farfetched dream at the moment. On the other hand, we wouldn’t put it past Sony to deliver a product like this in the near future. Actually, some people might recall that a new version of the PlayStation VR has been rumored to come for quite some time.
