Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee! Has a New Requirement for Facing Gym Leaders

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee! has a new requirement for facing Gym Leaders that some fans might not be too happy about. It was revealed already in the gameplay videos shown at E3 but The Pokemon Company has now clarified about this new detail. The official Japanese website for the game has been now updated to reflect this information.

In the section regarding Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee! Gyms, it goes over the basics of what a gym is and how to collect gym badges. The interesting new tidbit is that in order to even enter a gym and challenge the leader, you will need to complete a specific task. This task can vary from gym to gym, adding a little wrinkle to the typical gym challenge that fans know.

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee!

This wouldn’t actually be too annoying but some of the requirements in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee! direct you to play the RPG in a certain way with no other choice. In the case of the very first gym in the game in Pewter City, you will need to present a water or grass-type Pokemon to the man at the gym entrance in order to take on Brock and his cohorts.

Considering that water and grass Pokemon are pretty scarce in the opening areas of the original Kanto games, this could be a difficult thing to do in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee! It’s also odd because it does force you to catch a Pokemon that you might not have wanted to otherwise. Thankfully, this won’t be the only type of challenge.

Other possible Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee! challenges include having a certain type like the above, level requirements, and more. Most likely, this is in place to help those players who might have played something like Pokemon Go but have never checked out a “typical” Pokemon RPG before.
