PS4 Versions of PS2 Classic Rockstar Games Will Work on PS5

Do you have PS4 versions of classic PS2 games by Rockstar? If so, you may be wondering if they will run on your PlayStation 5. In fact, it turns out that the answer to that question is a resounding “yes.” PS4 versions of PS2 classic Rockstar games should be compatible with your PS5.

You Will Be Able to Play All PS4 Versions of PS2 Classic Rockstar Games on Your PS5

Rockstar blogged about backwards compatibility. The company wrote, “With the imminent launches of both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S later this month, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 will be playable on these new consoles via backward compatibility, along with the most recent versions of L.A. Noire (including the PlayStation VR version of L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files), and a number of classic Rockstar titles.”

Here are the PS4 versions of PS2 games you can play on PS5:

  • Bully
  • Grand Theft Auto III
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Manhunt
  • Max Payne
  • Red Dead Revolver
  • The Warriors

The post notes that transferring save files and full games should be simple and straightforward through a variety of methods. Also, “Your current progress and accomplishments in both Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online will also carry over, provided you are using the same PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account on the new console. To ensure your accounts are properly linked, visit https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/settings/linkedaccounts.”

There have been a lot of unanswered questions about backwards compatibility. Some of us were caught off-guard when it was announced earlier this week that 9 Ubisoft games will not be backwards compatible on PS5. So, we appreciate Rockstar providing clarification on the availability of its games. It is reassuring to know that we can continue enjoying all these PS4 Rockstar games on PS5. Continue to follow our PlayStation news for more updates on backwards compatibility.
