PS5 Rumors State the Console Will Outperform Xbox Scarlett

A few days ago, we reported that there were rumors coming out of E3 stating that the PlayStation 5 will be more powerful than the Xbox Scarlett. Since that time, further PS5 rumors from additional sources have come to light saying the same thing. While this could just be a case of the rumor mill going wild, it may add weight to the original hearsay.

Where Do These Latest PS5 Rumors Come From?

The newest PS5 rumors came from gaming writer Colin Moriarty, formerly of IGN, speaking in Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast. Specifically, Moriarty claimed he has heard that the PS5 is “definitely more powerful” than Xbox Scarlett.

So where did the previous rumors come from which say the same thing? Those were from Andrew Reiner, who tweeted on June 9th:

The tweet says, “Rumors before the show say the PS5 is more powerful than Project Scarlett, but we’ll see.”

Both Moriarty and Reiner seem quite vague as to where and from whom they have heard that PS5 will beat Scarlett in terms of performance. But Reiner and Moriarty themselves have excellent credentials. So we would think they would not be sharing these rumors if they did not trust their own sources.

Xbox Scarlett will not outperform PS5, according to the latest rumors.

Based on what we know right now about the next PlayStation and Xbox, the capabilities of the two consoles do not appear to be all that different. But we still do not know all of their specs. Developers who have already been given kits, on the other hand, would be aware of any major differences in performance between the two. That may be where these Scarlett and PS5 rumors are coming from.

Just going by the history of the rivalry between Sony and Microsoft, it would really not be surprising if indeed the PS5 is more powerful. While Microsoft has made tremendous strides to catch up during the current gen, Sony tends to take the lead when it comes to new console releases.

The only way we will find out the truth will be to wait patiently until the full specs start leaking. Things seem to be picking up pace. So we suspect we will not have to wait for too long to find out which console will be the more powerful one. Whenever we hear more rumors on this front, or details leak, we will share them with you in our PlayStation news area.
