We’re roughly a month away from the launch of id Software’s hectic shooter sequel Rage 2. To start priming the hype pumps, id has released a new trailer which focuses on the sequel’s strong points. Specifically, the trailer shows off the various abilities and special weapons players can unlock and wield. More importantly, it also shows how those abilities and weapons can be combined for devastating (and oftentimes hilarious) effect.
Rage 2 Abilities and Weapons Trailer
The roughly two-minute trailer starts by listing off some of the basic abilities players can unlock. Most of these abilities we already know about, but it’s still cool seeing them in action. The abilities shown in the trailer include the following:
- Shatter – A kinetic blast which can send foes flying through the air (or off of cliffs)
- Vortex – A summoned orb which pulls all nearby enemies in close before exploding
- Barrier – A deployable force field which blocks enemy projectiles
- Slam – A powerful ground punch which launches all nearby objects and enemies up into the air
These abilities can be deployed in quick succession, allowing players to combine them into unique combo moves. For example, a player could deploy a Barrier, launch over the Barrier with Vortex, and finish with a Slam.
The latter half of the trailer focuses on the various armaments players can find. Footage from the trailer shows the use of additional abilities which seem like they’re tied to specific weapons. One particularly interesting ability involves shooting a seemingly mundane object (like an explosive barrel) with special bullets. The player then targets an enemy and activates the weapon ability. This causes the previously shot object to hurtle at the enemy like a missile.
