Red Dead Online Launches as a Standalone Game Next Week

In just a couple of weeks’ time, GTA Online will be getting its next major expansion – the Cayo Perico Heist. However, before that expansion arrives, Red Dead Online is about to have its own major event. In this case, that event is a standalone relaunch, due to take place on the 1st of December. For the first time, Red Dead Online will be available to buy as a standalone game separate from Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Online is Becoming a Standalone Game

Red Dead Online Launches as Standalone Game Next Week 2

From the 1st of December, Red Dead Online will be available for gamers to buy as a standalone game on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store, Steam, and Rockstar Games Launcher. (Note that the game is fully backwards compatible with the PS5 and Xbox Series X.) Moreover, the game will actually be available at a steep discount, which will be available for several months! The new standalone title will cost gamers just $4.99, at least until the 15th of February 2021. At that stage, the introductory 75% discount will be removed.

Gamers thinking about picking up the online portion of Red Dead Redemption 2 should bear in mind that it is a very substantial download. Evidently, cutting out the single-player story didn’t remove much actual data, because the game will take up 123 GB of disk space! Of course, players should also note that if you already own Red Dead Redemption 2, there’s no need to buy this standalone title; the online multiplayer will still be fully available through the core game as normal. Additionally, the standalone version will offer gamers the option to purchase the Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode separately. (So they won’t have to buy the full game.)
