Red Dead Redemption 2: The Familiar RDR Faces Returning in the Sequel

Red Dead Redemption 2 functions as a prequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, opening up some interesting story possibilities. Characters who met untimely ends in the 2010 original can once again make an appearance. In fact, several such characters *will* make an appearance, as you’ll see in the below list.

Which recognizable faces will be returning in Red Dead Redemption 2?

Red Dead Redemption 2 Returning Characters

Rockstar has confirmed that the following Red Dead Redemption characters are returning in the sequel. Some will have larger roles than others, but they’ll all appear at least once.

Edgar Ross

In Red Dead Redemption, Edgar Ross was the federal agent who basically blackmailed John Marston into hunting his former friends. We know from trailer footage that RDR 2 players will encounter local law enforcement, including a younger Edger Ross. We’ll see how much of a thorn in players’ sides Ross is this time around.

Dutch van der Linde

The infamous leader of the Van der Linde gang will naturally show up in Red Dead Redemption 2. Dutch’s presence in the original game wasn’t very prominent, even when it came time to hunt him down. In Red Dead Redemption 2, players will get a much better look at both Dutch and his gang of misfits.

Javier Escuella

Javier Escuella is a former Mexican revolutionary and prominent Van der Linde gang member. In Red Dead Redemption, players chase and eventually confront Escuella in Mexico where he’s working as an assassin for hire. However, in Red Dead Redemption 2 Escuella is an ally since he and the player are in the same gang.

Bill Williamson

Red Dead Redemption players will remember Bill Williamson well. Like Javier Escuella, Williamson is also a notable Van der Linde gang member. In Red Dead Redemption, he was the one who shot and left John Marston for dead during the game’s opening. Chances are he won’t be a likeable personality in the new game given his surly and cowardly nature.

The Marston Family

Yep, you knew it was coming. Virtually all of the Marston family will make cameo appearances in Red Dead Redemption 2. Players will meet younger versions of John and Abigail, Jack as a young boy, and even Uncle. Red Dead Redemption 2 players might also see John and Abigail’s daughter, or at least learn her name. The unnamed Marston daughter is only briefly mentioned in Red Dead Redemption since by that point she has tragically died.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches tomorrow, October 26. Of course, if you’re buying a physical copy of the game, you might be able to play early. You’ll also gain early access to certain in-game items if you play on PS4.
