Capcom has announced the Resident Evil 2 remake is getting a playable demo on January 11. The demo will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. However, the demo’s unique “1-shot” format also limits the total amount of time available to players.
Resident Evil 2 1-Shot Demo Experience
According to a press release from Capcom, the Resident Evil 2 1-shot demo’s availability window is January 11-31. During that timeframe, players can download the demo and experience a playable slice of the full game starring Leon Kennedy. However, once a player starts the demo, they’ll only have 30 minutes to complete the main gameplay objective.
Here’s Capcom’s official description of the demo’s gameplay contents:
“In the 1-Shot demo, players step into the boots of rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy as he arrives at Raccoon City Police Station in the ultimate worst first day on the job. Leon must survive vicious zombies and solve puzzles to find safe passage out of the station. With an entire building of flesh-eating nightmares lurking between Leon and his escape while the clock ticks down, players need to be sure they’re killing more than just time.”
If Leon is killed, the player can make subsequent attempts as long as they haven’t used up their 30 minutes. Once the 30 minutes are used up, though, the player is locked out of the demo for good. Players who successfully complete the demo’s objective unlock a demo-exclusive cinematic trailer. The trailer can be viewed any number of times even after the 30 minute timer expires.
The Resident Evil 2 remake launches on January 25, shortly before the end of the demo’s availability timeframe. This means interested fans can still give the demo a try even after the full game’s launch.
Considering how popular the Resident Evil 2 remake already is, the demo should be quite a hit. Of course, some fans may refuse to play the demo out of respect to Resident Evil 2’s original story.
