Respawn Reverts Apex Legends Evo Armor to Pre-Season 6 Values

During the launch of Apex Legends Season 6, most of the focus was on the new Legend, new weapon, and other big new additions. However, one of the most significant changes was actually to the game’s armour. Principally, all armour is now Evo Armour, but in addition, all of the armour values went down slightly. Now, however, Respawn is rolling out an increase to reset those values.

Apex Legends Evo Armor Values Rolled Back

“In Season 6, we made a few big changes to the way our armor works,” explains Design Director Jason McCord; “First, all armor became Evo Armor. Second, all armor values were reduced by 25 HP. After letting the change simmer for a few weeks, we’ve analyzed some data and collected player feedback enough to make a decision. We are going to revert the armor values to pre-Season 6 values. This change is happening today across all platforms.”

McCord went on to clarify that armor will remain Evo Armor; that particular change won’t be reverted. According to McCord, the reason for the value rollback is because the change hadn’t produced the results they wanted. Apparently, when Evo Armor was first introduced, the developers found that players would reach Red Armor more often, making them unusually tough. As a result, players were consistently able to outperform more skilled opponents. The reduction in armor values at the start of Season 6 was meant to account for this.

However, those results were solely from internal testing. Unfortunately, it seems that the results have been different among the general community. As a result, the change hasn’t had the effect that the devs were hoping for, hence the rollback. “We will keep changing the game in order to keep it fresh and interesting […],” concludes McCord; “I hope that this patch proves that we are thinking deeply about our decisions, but most importantly listening to our players.”
