Rumor: Sony San Diego Developing Open World RPG

If you are a Sony gamer who enjoys open world games, this fresh rumor should interest you. Sony San Diego recently put up a new job listing. The implication of the posting is that the company is developing an open world RPG. Let’s take a closer look.

Is Sony San Diego Developing an Open World RPG?

You can take a look at the job posting for yourself here. It is for a “Game Test Analyst – Open World” at Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation. The position is entry-level, and will apparently not last longer than 24 months.

The listing says, “We need skilled testers familiar with immersive third person combat, open world RPG elements, and challenging gameplay.” Scrolling down through the job duties, we see that there is a mention of “accuracy in online games and functionality,” which implies either a partial or full online component to the game. There also is a mention of “games with RPG and Puzzle elements.” So, we know nothing on a broad level about what the open world game might be, but it might include puzzles to solve.

In any case, Sony working on an in-house open world RPG is welcome news for PlayStation gamers. Ever since Microsoft bought Bethesda, some players have been wondering whether popular open world RPGs like Fallout and Elder Scrolls might be Microsoft exclusives in the future. Being as the open world RPG the job listing hints at is apparently under development by Sony, it seems likely that would also be a Sony exclusive.

In other news that may be of interest to PlayStation gamers, a new bill introduced in the UK could make scalping consoles illegal in that country. Anyone who has been trying to purchase a PS5 since it released can attest it has been next to impossible. Scalpers have been the reason for that. Let’s hope that UK bill passes and that other countries follow suit. To keep up with all updates on PS5, future PlayStation games, and more, please see our PlayStation news.
