Shawn Layden May Have Just Hinted at an Upcoming PS5 Announcement

If there has been anything to report about the PlayStation 5 over recent months, it has been that there is almost nothing to report about the PS5. Sony has been frustratingly silent about the next-gen console, leaving gamers famished for news. But now it looks like that may be about to change. A recent tweet from Shawn Layden may hint toward an announcement in early 2019.

Here is the Evidence That Sony Is About to Drop a PS5 Announcement

What has gamers so excited right now is this tweet from Shawn Layden, Worldwide Studios Chairman of Sony:

@StormtheBard says, “Have to say I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see @ShawnLayden talk about anything for @PlayStation hoping we got good things on the horizon. I love Playstation and representing it on @WatchMixer as much as I do with Platinum runs and exclusives 🙂

Shawn Layden then responds, “See you in the new year.”

Is it vague? Yes—ridiculously so. But there are a couple of reasons why players are reading into it, and both of them are hopeful.

First of all, there is this interview, where golem.de asked, “That means you’re more likely to bet on a real Playstation 5 – whenever that’s going to happen?” Layden replied, “Yes. It will probably be sometime.”

Shawn Layden’s latest tweet has gamers wondering if a PS5 announcement is on the way.

Next, there is a leak from Redditor u/RuthenicCookie. This is the same user who revealed to us that Sony is going to be skipping out of the next E3. Despite the unlikelihood of such a possibility, Sony has already confirmed it.

If you scroll down in that post and read the comments, you will see a conversation where another Redditor asked, “So should I expect actual PS5 stuff at PSX2019? Gonna be the PS5 reveal event?” RuthenicCookie responded, “Small reveal mid 2019, big one at psx.”

Taken all together, these hints all seem to suggest that Sony is going to speak up about the PlayStation 5 next year. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for that to happen.

What else do we know about the PS5? At this point, not a whole lot. The release date could range anywhere from 2019 to 2021 according to analysts. Going off of recent developments at the Inter BEE conference, the graphics look like they are going to be phenomenal.
