Sony Reveals That First Party Games Remain a Priority for PS5

The other day, we reported that a journalist is saying that Xbox Series X is going to launch with a ton of exclusives, leaving PS5 way behind with first party games. But is that really going to be the case? If you were worried that Sony’s commitment to first party games is failing, you will be reassured by what the company said about the future of first party games for PlayStation 5.

What Sony Worldwide Studios Head Hermen Hulst Said About First Party Games

Sony Worldwide Studios Head Hermen Hulst told Games Industry, “We are very committed to the types of games we’ve been making at Worldwide Studios for the last decade: big, spectacular experiences with story and characters at the core. We will keep making these games, because we love to make them. And as a brand we are eager to branch out and start including and curating a new generation of developers, that create new and different experiences for a new generation of gamers.”

So, just as Microsoft has been picking up developers left and right, Sony has announced its intention to expand its own collection of studios. This is relieving news, and goes counter to what we were starting to expect based on rumors only the other week. It would be such a shame if Sony reduced its commitment to amazing first party games. And even the other week, we were saying how little business sense that would make. So, it is good to know that Sony knows better than to stop doing what it does so well.

Can you believe that 2020 is here at last? This is the year we finally are going to be able to get our hands on the PlayStation 5. As we wait for the holiday 2020 release window, keep up with all the latest updates in our PlayStation news section.
