Soulcalibur 6 Will Feature the Undead Pirate Cervantes

When it comes to the Soulcalibur series roster, the villains are often just as memorable (if not more so) than their heroic counterparts, which makes sense given the dualistic nature of the series’ Soul Edge and Soulcalibur swords. Now, Bandai Namco has confirmed that villainous Soulcalibur mainstay Cervantes will be featured in Soulcalibur 6, joining previously revealed villains such as Voldo and newcomer Azwel.

Cervantes returns to the Soulcalibur fray.

As you can see in the below reveal trailer, Cervantes is once again packing his trusty Acheron & Nirvana longsword/shortsword combo and his “Memories of Soul Edge” fighting style. Those memories of his allow Cervantes to carve opponents up in close range with a surprisingly acrobatic flair, and enemies who think they’re safe at range will quickly eat a bullet (or three) from the hidden pistol contained in the guard of his shortsword. That hidden pistol will also tie into Cervantes’ powerful final moves, proving that the old salt still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

Even though he had technically found a way to escape the influences of Soul Edge and become mortal once more in Soulcalibur 5, Cervantes is very clearly back to his undead roots with his Soulcalibur 6 incarnation. This change actually makes sense when you consider that Soulcalibur 6 will function as a sort of retelling of the original Soul Edge game, hence why certain characters who had become radically changed in recent games (such as Kilik) or had simply disappeared entirely (like Taki) are once again restored to their proper forms.

Cervantes will be part of an extensive roster of both new and returning fighters when Soulcalibur 6 launches on October 19 for consoles and PC. Along with the game’s more original cast, Bandai Namco’s latest numbered entry will also feature a guest fighter in the way of The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia, a rather appropriate choice given the series’ blend of magic and medieval-style swordplay.
