As you may have gathered, gamers aren’t all that great with accepting change as most gamers simply aren’t aware of the industry they claim to love so whole-heartedly. Unfortunately, this mean’s that Spider Man’s Mary Jane has received quite the backlash recently, and it’s all thanks to her change of face. As you’ll be able to see below, Mary Jane looks a little different than how she looked last year when the game was revealed.
If we’re being honest, the change is prominent but not to the point we feel as though the world is now collapsing upon them at this face change. From what we can tell with the naked eye, the biggest changes Mary Jane has received is to her eyes, nose and face shape. Her nose appears to be more angular, her eyes are now much lighter than before and her face has lost its sharp cheekbones and chin. Nonetheless, she’s still fairly recognizable and we don’t see much of an issue.

Sure it’s a fairly big change, but we’re sure that some fans are worrying over nothing. After all, it isn’t as if Mary Jane’s change of face is going to cause the game to collapse in on itself. At least, that’s what any rational person would think, right?
Unfortunately, some predictable gamers are more concerned about Mary Jane’s face than the actual game itself. If you dare head onto Reddit or even Twitter, you’ll see more than a few comments debating that Mary Jane’s face change has led them to not wanting to play the game any longer as she is ‘too unattractive’ to appear on-screen. Yes, readers, it is that ridiculous.
As Spider-Man is still in development, it makes sense that some things (such as faces) will change as the game progresses. It’s saddening to see that once again women, real and fictional, are held to an impossible standard due to something that really is down to game development.
One thing we know for sure, however, is this: Sony won’t be missing their purchases.
