Square Enix Hosts NieR Birthday Stream Next Week, Hints At Announcement

Square Enix has announced that a NieR birthday livestream will be taking place next week on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018. As many fans will know, the latest in the series, Automata, released in March last year for us so what exactly is it celebrating? It’s actually celebrating two birthdays of some very important people to the franchise. One is Yoko Taro, the beloved Director and Creator of the NieR series and the other is the protagonist of the original game.

Both share a June 6th birthday, which is the driving force behind this livestream next week. Popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu is hosting the livestream alongside Square Enix’s Yoko Taro, Producer Yosuke Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, cosplayer Nagisa, and various other staff members from Famitsu. The livestream will be taking place on both YouTube and NicoNico Live at 8:00 pm JST (4:00 am PT).

In addition to celebrating the birthdays of series creator Yoko Taro and protagonist NieR, June 6th also marks the first anniversary of the launch of SINoALICE. SINoALICE is a mobile Square Enix game in which you play as a variety of fairy tale characters like Cinderella and Snow White. It was also created by Yoko Taro.

NieR Remaster Birthday Livestream

We suspect that this NieR birthday livestream will have at least one announcement as part of it. The event seems way too big and hyped up to just be a birthday event. But what exactly could be announced there? The SINoALICE mobile game could be announced for the West finally, but we doubt that being that it seems to be geared towards the Japanese audience.

Instead, there are two other possibilities that we think will happen. The first – and less likely of the two – is that we will get the first tease of the third NieR game ahead of Square Enix’s E3 2018 press conference. The other potential announcement would be a remaster of the original NieR that released back in 2010 in Japan.
