Star Wars Battlefront 2 Is Finally Getting Playable Droidekas

At long last, playable Droidekas are making their way into DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2. The Droidekas spearhead Battlefront 2’s next major content update, but they’re not the only new feature. A new republic tank vehicle, new trooper appearances, and a new outfit for Anakin Skywalker round out the latest Star Wars Battlefront 2 update.

The upcoming Droideka update was announced via the official EA Star Wars Twitter account. According to EA’s tweet, the update should be going live before the end of June. That means fans can expect it to arrive within the next few days since there’s only one week of June left.

Accompanying the tweet is a teaser video narrated by Star Wars Battlefront 2 franchise director Dennis Brannvall. The video has plenty of footage showing the Droidekas in action. Much like in Pandemic Studios’ original Battlefront games, Droidekas will have high mobility and firepower. They can fold up and roll around the battlefield before deploying into their assault mode firing position. Droidekas move slowly while firing, but they can also deploy energy barriers to deflect incoming damage.

The Droidekas will only be available for the Imperial factions, but DICE hasn’t left the Galactic Republic empty-handed. Republic players will get to deploy the new TX-130 hover tank, another staple of the Clone Wars. As for new cosmetic items, players will get to unlock new 212th Recon Division and 41st Scout Battalion trooper appearances. Anakin Skywalker is also getting a ‘General Skywalker’ outfit based off his look from the Clone Wars series.

Lastly, the video confirms there’s more to come beyond the Droidekas update. DICE plans on introducing a new planetary battleground, the jungle planet Felucia, in the near future. Upcoming updates will also include “new ways to play the game,” though Brannvall didn’t elaborate further.

It’s nice to see DICE is still supporting Star Wars Battlefront 2 after March’s Capital Supremacy update. If competitive shooters aren’t your thing, Star Wars: The Old Republic is also getting a new expansion this September.
