New Teaser Points to Upcoming Total War: Warhammer 2 Skaven DLC

At last, Creative Assembly have given fans their first teaser for the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 2 DLC, which is due to release sometime this December. While speculation has been rife as to what the next DLC will include, it now looks all but concrete that it will be a Warhammer 2 Skaven DLC, most likely in the form of a Lord Pack pairing Skaven with either High Elves or Dark Elves. Plus, the new teaser may very well point to the Skaven Legendary Lord which fans can expect.

Total War: Warhammer 2 Skaven DLC Coming in December

The odds of the upcoming December DLC being a Skaven DLC have always been good. After all, Creative Assembly have confirmed that this DLC pack won’t feature a race from the first game, as The Hunter and The Beast did. Given that Lizardmen have featured in both of the last DLC packs, they are very unlikely to feature in this one. That leaves only High Elves, Dark Elves, and Skaven, and there has already been a Dark Elves vs. High Elves Lord Pack DLC; The Queen and The Crone.

Creative Assembly have confirmed that the accompanying FLC will not be a Skaven Legendary Lord. Given that this teaser strongly suggests that the Skaven will be one half of the next Lord Pack, that means that Skaven fans will probably only get a single Legendary Lord. Many fans have been hoping for either Thanquol and Boneripper or Throt the Unclean. However, the accompanying text; “You’d better not snitch,” strongly implies that the new Lord will in fact be the Skaven master assassin, Deathmaster Snikch. Snikch’s faction, Clan Eshin, is already present in the game, but is not playable; it appears under the leadership of a generic Skaven character in a single small settlement in the centre of Araby. It’s unclear whether the clan will remain there or move to a new starting position in the DLC.

Snikch always seemed to be a less likely possibility for a DLC character, given that most of the units associated with Clan Eshin are already in the game. The most glaring absences from the Skaven roster certainly align more closely with Clan Moulder. However, if Snikch is set to feature, fans are likely to get at least one new generic Skaven Lord, several new units, and some new Regiments of Renown.

Of course, it’s possible that this could be another character, or a bluff of some kind. However, Creative Assembly’s teasers have a tendency to be relatively unsubtle. As such, the question now remains of who will be paired off against Snikch. Dark Elves seem the likely choice, with Malus Darkblade as the frontrunner for Legendary Lord. However, the choice to include Snikch does raise the possibility that he could face off against Shadowblade; a Dark Elf assassin who serves Crone Hellebron. Indeed, with no Skaven FLC coming, it’s possible that the Dark Elves will get two Legendary Lords this time around. So, perhaps fans will get both Darkblade and Shadowblade?
