The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is Now Available on Nintendo Switch

After four long months of waiting, Switch owners can finally play CD Projekt Red’s last full-size RPG on their consoles! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition, a new version of the game which includes all DLC, is now available to play on the Nintendo Switch. This will be the first time ever that one of CD Projekt Red’s games has come to the Switch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition Launches

Dubbed “Switcher,” by both fans and CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition was first announced four months ago. Since then, CD Projekt Red has given fans a few glimpses of what they can expect from the game with a variety of screenshots. The Complete Edition contains all of the game’s DLC, ranging from the various free downloads to both major expansions; Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine. All of this would ordinarily take up far more space than a Switch can normally store. However, CD Projekt Red have reduced the graphical quality in some areas in order to save space.

It’s fair to say that this graphical downgrade is noticeable, particularly in the background. However, the quality of the characters and immediate surroundings is almost surprisingly good. Evidently, CD Projekt Red endeavoured to cut graphical quality only from those areas where it is least noticeable. From what has been shown so far, they seem to have done an excellent job in that regard. However, fans will be able to see for themselves now that the game is available.

If sales of the Complete Edition are a success, it could open the door for other games to make a similar move. Developers from the team behind The Elder Scrolls: Online have previously said that they looked into porting the game. However, they ultimately found that it was too large to fit. A strong sales performance for the Complete Edition may indicate to developers and publishers alike that Switch fans don’t mind a graphical downgrade if it means getting games which they otherwise wouldn’t. If so, studios may reconsider whether their games can be brought to the console in a similar manner.
