Total War: Three Kingdoms is the Fastest-Selling Total War Game Ever

Total War: Three Kingdoms, the latest game in the Total War franchise, launched last week following a two-month delay. The game quickly achieved notable critical success, with numerous glowing reviews appearing online. Now, it has been revealed by Creative Assembly that Three Kingdoms has also enjoyed enormous sales success; the game has become the fastest-selling Total War game ever!

Total War: Three Kingdoms Has Already Sold Over One Million Copies

The news was confirmed earlier today by Creative Assembly; “Three Kingdoms just became the fastest-selling title in the franchise,” they said, on social media; “selling over one million copies!” The game’s launch day was also notable for setting a record for the most players playing a Total War game concurrently; a figure which saw the game temporarily overtake numerous major titles like GTA V and Rainbow 6 on Steam. It reached #4 on the ranking for concurrent players, behind just Dota 2, PUBG, and CS:GO.

The record-breaking launch sales also mean that more than one million players got free access to the Yellow Turban Rebellion DLC. This day-one DLC adds three additional playable faction leaders; the Yellow Turban rebel leaders He Yi, Huang Shao, and Gong Du. Their factions also have unique units, mechanics, and gameplay features. The DLC was free for anybody who pre-ordered the game, and is also free for anybody who buys the game in the first week after launch. Gamers have barely 24 hours left to take advantage of this offer.

Total War Three Kingdoms Fastest-Selling Total War Ever 2

With the game now released, the focus will no doubt begin to turn toward future DLC for Total War: Three Kingdoms. Creative Assembly recently explained how they plan to structure their post-launch content. Instead of the race packs which have been common for the Total War: Warhammer games, the studio will be releasing “chapter packs”. These will focus on particular periods from the history of the Three Kingdoms era; offering new campaigns with their own new factions and gameplay mechanics.
