Total War: Warhammer 2 is Getting Two Free Heroes Next Week

Next week, on the 3rd of December, Creative Assembly will be launching The Twisted and The Twilight, the next major DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. However, alongside that release, the studio also has a whole range of free content coming to the game, including two brand-new Total War: Warhammer 2 Heroes; the Wood Elf Glade Captain and the Skaven Chieftain.

Two New Total War: Warhammer 2 Heroes

Traditionally, when Creative Assembly launches a new Total War: Warhammer 2 DLC, they also release a bonus Legendary Lord as Free-LC. This time, however, there are a few extra factors in play. There is indeed a new Free-LC Lord coming – Drycha – but players will only be able to download her if they own the Realm of the Wood Elves DLC for the first Total War: Warhammer. Additionally, she will only be playable in the Mortal Empires campaign, not in Eye of the Vortex.

Total War Warhammer 2 Heroes Coming Next Week for Free 2

Perhaps to make up for these extra limiting factors, which do make sense in the content of the character, Creative Assembly will be releasing two separate Hero characters as Free-LC as well. However, these won’t simply arrive with the free update coming on the 3rd. Instead, players will have to manually download them. The Skaven Chieftain is available on Steam, but to download the Wood Elf Glade Captain, they must go to Total War Access. Both characters are totally free to download, they’re just available via different sources.

Interestingly, both characters provide something similar for their respective factions; a tough, combat-centric support Hero who can fight on the front line. While the Wood Elf Glade Captain is an ideal cavalry leader or character-killer, the Chieftain serves more as a bodyguard. Some bodyguard characters offer an ability called Guardian, which offers protection to nearby friendly characters. The Chieftain, however, befitting his Skaven nature, has “Loyal Guardian” and “Fickle Guardian”. The former provides physical resistance to all nearby friendly Skaven characters. Should the Chieftain fall below 50% health, however, his survival instinct kicks in and Fickle Guardian activates. This switches the physical resistance to himself, rather than providing it for his allies.
