New Total War: Warhammer 2 Update Adds the Amethyst Wizard

As the release of Total War: Three Kingdoms looms, Creative Assembly has actually released a new Total War: Warhammer 2 update. This update, called the ‘Amethyst Update,’ isn’t huge. However, it does make some important balance changes to the new content added in The Prophet and the Warlock DLC. It also brings a brand-new Hero to the Empire; the Amethyst Wizard!

The New Total War: Warhammer 2 Update and Amethyst Wizards

“The Scythe, the Hourglass, the Amethyst Skull, the Thorny Rose – these are the symbols of the Imperial Colleges of Magic,” explains Creative Assembly; “The Amethyst Order is represented by the inverted Scythe, indicating its affinity with the Purple Wind, Shyish, and, of course, death itself. In fact, the very awareness of mortality – that there must be an end to all things – creates its powerful magic. The Amethyst Wizard is therefore, by definition, a magister morbidly obsessed, able to strip vitality directly from Lords and Heroes and, crucially, diminish the will of those fighting beneath them, turning even the bravest warriors to ignominious flight.”

The Amethyst Wizard is a new Hero character which will be available to the Empire faction in Mortal Empires in Total War: Warhammer 2. As they’re available for the Empire faction, you’ll need to own the first game in order to use them. The Amethyst Wizards wield the lore of death, giving them access to Spirit Leech and its other spells; a valuable set of new tools for the Empire!

Total War Warhammer 2 Update Amethyst Wizard Doomsphere

The Amethyst Update provides a variety of bug-fixes and balancing tweaks. Most of these address issues with content added in The Prophet and the Warlock. For example, the game will no longer crash if a player activates more than one Doomsphere at once! (As appropriate as that may seem.) When it comes to battles, only the Beastmen, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Skaven, Vampire Counts and Vampire Coast get changes in this update. For instance, the Ancient Salamander has had a heavy power reduction, while the Cygor has gotten a buff.
