Ubisoft Unveils Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Following a tease from earlier this week, Ubisoft has officially unveiled Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The newest Ghost Recon title functions as a sequel to Ghost Recon: Wildlands while preserving the series’ iconic tactical gameplay. Even better, Breakpoint is set to launch well before the end of 2019.

For Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Ubisoft is moving the action to a massive fictional island called Aurora. The island houses the headquarters of SkellTech, a technology company which has been commandeered by a villainous paramilitary faction. This faction, called The Wolves, is led by a former Ghost, Cole D. Walker (played by actor Jon Bernthal).

Wildlands players may recognize Walker since he actually shows up in the game’s recently added Operation Oracle DLC mission. In Wildlands, Walker functions as an ally for the player, making his villainous turn all the more surprising. Ubisoft says Breakpoint’s new narrative-driven campaign will explains Walker’s transition from friend to foe.

As for gameplay, Breakpoint looks to improve and expand upon all of Wildlands’ high points. Breakpoint will once again allow players to create their own Ghost and utilize third and first-person viewpoints during combat. Several fan-requested features that never made it into Wildlands will also be present in Breakpoint, including the following:

  • Picking up and moving human bodies
  • Cutting and breaching chain-link fences
  • Using environmental assets like mud to hide in plain sight
  • Bloused boot cosmetics

Progression, PvP, And Raids

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will have a dedicated PvP mode in addition to solo and co-op PvE. Character progression (cosmetics, skills, gear loadouts, etc.) will also seamlessly carry over between PvE and PvP modes. Ubisoft also has a long-term post-launch support schedule in the works for Breakout. Several post-launch expansions will arrive over the following year, as will new pinnacle PvE Raid experiences.

Raids will be the ultimate endgame challenge for seasoned Breakout players. Unsurprisingly, Raids will also require a full squad of four players to tackle, lone wolves need not apply.

Ghost Recon: Breakout will launch on October 4 for PC and consoles. Those who pre-order the game will get access to a pre-release beta among other exclusive perks.
