Upcoming Destiny 2 Social Changes Will Affect Fireteams, Clans, and Guided Games

With the imminently arriving Forsaken expansion, Destiny 2 developer Bungie will be making some substantial changes to pretty much every one of the core game’s systems, from the Eververse to Faction Rallies. In its most recent This Week at Bungie blog post the studio also confirmed that, with Forsaken, Destiny 2’s social features will be getting some much-needed updates as well.

Specifically, the Forsaken expansion will included changes for the current Fireteam, Clan, and Guided Game systems, changes that will make all three systems more accessible and user-friendly. One of the most oft-requested features from the Destiny 2 community is the ability to stay with your current Fireteam once you complete an activity, and in Forsaken that dream will finally become a reality. The new “stay together” rule will apply for Strikes, Quickplay Crucible matches, and the new Gambit mode. For Competitive Crucible matches and Crucible games that end in a mercy ruling, all players will still be returned to the matchmaking pool.

For Guided Games, there will be a three-minute grace period for an individual seeker player to rejoin their guided group if they’re disconnected. Raid Fireteams will also be able to seamlessly transfer their Guided Game raid checkpoints over to that raid’s normal version, ensuring that they don’t lose all their raid progress if they’re all disconnected from their Guided Games attempt.

Starting with Forsaken, players will earn Clan XP by completing a new series of bounties which are offered up by Hawthorne in the Tower. There will be three daily bounties available each day which can be completed either solo or in a Fireteam and which grant a small amount of Clan XP upon completion. Once a player reaches level 50 (Forsaken’s new level cap), they’ll also be granted access to three weekly bounties which have larger Clan XP rewards but which can only be completed while you’re in a Fireteam with clanmates. A new series of Clan perks will also be available at specific Clan ranks:

  • Rank 3: Increased resilience when you’re in a Fireteam with clanmates.
  • Rank 5: Grants a chance to receive additional Etheric and Baryon resources when collecting them in the Reef.
  • Rank 6:  The weekly clan milestone also grants a Masterwork Core.

Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion will launch on September 4 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
