WWE 2K Battlegrounds Nintendo Switch Gameplay Footage Arrives From Nintendo Direct

Brand new WWE 2K Battleground gameplay footage has arrived courtesy of a recent Nintendo Direct presentation. So far, we’ve seen a trailer for the game and glimpses of what’s to come. With the new footage, we got a look at several of the WWE superstars battling on the game for Nintendo Switch.

WWE superstars play WWE 2K Battlegrounds for Nintendo Switch

WWE 2K20 Battlegrounds will feature a more arcade feel to it as compared to the recent lineup of WWE 2K games. That’s been displayed in all of the footage revealed so far and is the case with the new gameplay footage. In a video below from Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, there’s another glimpse at the game in action, this time for the Switch.

This time, we’ve got several of the real-life WWE superstars sitting in a ring and playing the game against one another. That includes Asuka and Cesaro as well as Big E and Kofi Kingston of New Day. They run a tag team match as we see the entrances for Andre the Giant, John Cena, Jeff Hardy, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

In the WWE 2K Battlegrounds Nintendo Switch footage, we see more evidence of how this will be much more of a straightforward fighting game than other 2K games. Still, it includes newer mayhem. In the new vid, we see footage of a superstar wielding a bicycle in the ring as a weapon and Cena’s arm punching Austin with a blaze of power.

At the bottom of the screen during the match, we also see each superstar has special icons. These relate to unique fighting abilities that are unlocked and/or used during matches.

Basically, this is an all-out arcade-style fighting game with some crazy additions. Other footage revealed the goat, an alligator, and a helicopter. It’s possible that 2K moved in this direction based on popularity or feedback of the WWE 2K Originals content. That included a variety of different fight settings with WWE superstars as zombies, demons, or futuristic beings.

Battlegrounds game details

In a previous report, we revealed the cover, official trailer, and Battlegrounds game release date. The company chose to release this game while canceling 2K21. Still, it appears they’ll bring another game of that type in the future.

The game will feature offline and online modes including Exhibition, Campaign, and King of the Battleground. It also carries a lower price point than previous WWE video games. It’s available for $39.99 for the Standard edition, or $49.99 for Deluxe.

Both include an Edge Totally Awesome Pre-Order Pack which brings Edge as a playable superstar for the game. The Digital includes more extra including Digital Deluxe Bonus Pack and 1100 Golden Bucks.

WWE 2K Battleground will arrive on Sept. 18, 2020, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, and Steam.
