WWE 2K19 MyCareer Mode: MyPlayer AJ Kirsch Reveals Behind the Scenes of His Superstar

In one of the most entertaining aspects of the new WWE 2K19 video game, pro wrestling fans get to move through a story involving their climb towards superstardom. It’s part of the WWE 2K19 MyCareer mode which involves starting out on the independent scene. Gamers work their way up through challenges to get to NXT, and ultimately the main roster. In the game, AJ Kirsch is the WWE 2K19 MyPlayer voice and motion capture for a lot of that superstar. Kirsch recently talked about aspects of the game and his participation.

WWE 2K19 MyCareer Mode Motion Capture & Voice

Wrestlezone recently interviewed Kirsch about his involvement in the WWE 2K19 MyCareer mode. Kirsch was a former WWE Tough Enough competitor who took on the role of the playable character in the WWE 2K19 game mode. He indicated that all of the cutscenes, promos, and backstage vignettes that are shown in the story were his motion capture. However, not all of the in-ring work was Kirsch.

Kirsch said when it came to the in-ring visuals, “they had a small team of army guys doing the actual pro wrestling moves in the game.” He mentioned there is a “slew of other guys and girls that did the in-ring motion capture.”

Kirsch said he was unable to do in-ring matches for the game was due to the fact he injured himself. He suffered legitimate ACL and meniscus injuries which prevented him from being able to participate in that capacity. Still, he lent plenty of himself to the game’s mode.

WWE 2K19 MyCareer Mode – Kirsch Tapped Into His Experience

The realistic aspect of WWE 2K19 MyCareer Mode is the challenge involved in getting to the main roster. Kirsch knows the struggle in terms of trying to rise up from the lower indie promotions. That allowed him to give those playing 2K19 a true-to-life experience of the grind involved. It even includes promoting yourself as a new pro wrestler in the game’s story.

Kirsch said that many of today’s WWE fans also are interested in other promotions. These might include competitors like Lucha Underground, TNA Impact, or other organizations. He said that allowed them to “pull back the curtain” a bit in terms of how professional wrestling really works for a superstar’s work to get to the WWE roster.

“When you see that the MyCAREER mode starts on the independents, and not at curtain jerker status for the WWE, it adds a layer of authenticity that we see in real life.”

Regarding the reception MyCareer Mode has had in WWE 2K19, Kirsch said the fans spoke and 2K listened.

“Now that you’ve got authentic voiceovers from 26 WWE Superstars—I don’t know how many people play a video game to read, do you know what I mean? I don’t want to fire up a video game and read a bunch of text at the bottom of the screen.”

Kirsch makes a great point there. With MyCareer Mode, WWE 2K19 really upped the ante in terms of an overall game experience. The realism of the story, the struggles involved, and the actual voices make a major difference. One has to wonder what the game creators will do to try to top that in WWE 2K20.

The WWE 2K19 video game is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows PCs.
