WWE 2K21 Rumors Suggest 2K Game is Canceled in 2020

It’s been a tough year for the WWE 2K video game franchise and things could get even worse for fans of pro wrestling games. Based on new WWE 2K21 rumors, there may not be a new game coming out in 2020. Here are the latest details on who said what about the fate of the WWE 2K video game. Also, our take on the game’s current status.

What are the WWE 2K21 rumors?

YouTuber ViolentLee, real name Justin Leeper, has been providing his thoughts on the state of the WWE 2K franchise in his videos. Leeper is an actor who has worked in the video game industry. In his newest video, he says he has insider knowledge about the game being canceled.

“I have heard from reliable sources and I truly believe that WWE 2K21 has been canceled. There will be no game this year,” Leeper says in his video.

Leeper’s comments have driven the WWE 2K21 rumors over the past day or so with some fans supporting the idea. Leeper also provided a link to VikingSizeGamer’s YouTube video from several weeks ago. In that video, the YouTuber also alludes to them canceling the game.

Here’s the full video from Leeper indicating that sources say 2K has canceled the WWE 2K21 game for 2020.

We previously gave our thoughts on a WWE 2K21 wishlist should the game actually go forth. However, in some cases, taking time off in between titles could really benefit the franchise going forward.

The NBA Live game from EA Sports did that this past year. There was no NBA Live 20 to compete with NBA 2K20. WWE really doesn’t have any serious competitors in the professional wrestling video game space. However, if an AEW game comes out in 2020 that could grab gaming fans’ attention.

Worst WWE 2K game in franchise?

The WWE 2K20 video game arrived in a state of disarray full of glitches and issues that had gamers upset at what arrived for release day. A number of updates were released over the months, but gamers still seemed displeased with the overall game.

A lot of the issues stemmed from the development team situation. Over the years, WWE 2K was co-developed by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, but 2K20 was the first time it wasn’t. 2K Games and Visual Concepts had to scramble once Yuke’s decided to no longer help develop the game.

It still led to a lot of bad reviews from both critics and gamers. As of this report, Metacritic has a 43 out of 100 from critics for the PS4 game. The overall User Score is even worse, at 1.4 out of 10 after 234 reviews. The Xbox One version of the game sits at rated at 45 out of 100 for critics and 1.1 for its User Score.

Based on the negative reviews and ongoing coronavirus pandemic affecting many workplaces, it would not be too surprising if the 2K franchise doesn’t go forth in 2020. However, there’s been no official word from 2K about the game just yet, so gamers hoping for an improved product shouldn’t give up hope.

Typically, the WWE 2K games have come out in October each year, with a bit of buildup ahead of the release date. So stay tuned to see if any official news pops up in the coming weeks or months.
