Xbox Series X Exclusives Won’t Release at Console Launch

If there is one thing we are looking forward to about the launch of Xbox Series X more than anything, it may be upcoming exclusives. Microsoft has really gone out of its way to demonstrate its commitment to first party games. The company has scooped up developers left and right, and made plain its intentions to release new exclusives frequently for its upcoming console. But now, it sounds like we’ll be waiting for a while before we start getting games just for Xbox Series X. But don’t get fret, because this isn’t a bad thing.

Here’s How Long We’ll Be Waiting for True Xbox Series X Exclusives

Remember when a journalist predicted recently that Xbox Series X will beat PS5 for launch exclusives? That might be the case—though if so, those “exclusives” will be exclusive to the Xbox line of consoles, not just the Xbox Series X.

Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty said while speaking with MCV that, “As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices. We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”

So, in other words, let’s say you buy an Xbox One between now and the launch of the Xbox Series X. You can rest assured that over the next year (or two?), any new exclusives which Microsoft puts out for Xbox Series X will also be available for Xbox One. That way, you won’t feel like you effectively wasted your money. You’ll still be able to keep up with current games—for a while.

We heartily approve of this decision, because right now, you can get an Xbox One console for a pretty great bargain compared to when it was new. It just wouldn’t make sense to encourage gamers to keep buying Xbox One consoles and then punish them for that decision later.

We’ll let you know when we hear more news on Xbox Series X exclusives. In the meantime, catch up on news regarding Xbox Game Pass.
