Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale May Have Been Leaked

Since long before the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, speculation has been rife as to whether the game will have a Battle Royale mode. Ultimately, it proved not to have such a mode at launch, however, that does not mean that it won’t get one in the future. Indeed, past leaks have seemed to suggest as much. Now, a major Modern Warfare Battle Royale mode may have been revealed by another, even larger leak.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale Details in the New Leak

The addition of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare battle royale mode would hardly be a surprise. The mode has dominated the shooter market for well over a year, with many games choosing to focus heavily on it, including Modern Warfare’s immediate predecessor. In fact, the decision not to include one at launch may well be a canny marketing decision on the part of Activision; after all, the decision to introduce Firestorm post-launch to Battlefield 5 provided much attention and renewed interest in the game months after its release. Activision may well be thinking to provide Modern Warfare with a similar boost in the same way.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Battle Royale Details Leak

Details of a possible Modern Warfare battle royale mode may now have been revealed online. The purported leak was posted on the Modern Warfare subreddit by Senescallo; a data-miner who has leaked information about the game in the past. In this case, the leak comprises detailed images for a battle royale mode map; one for a mode which would release sometime in early 2020. These images are no longer available on the original post, however. According to the leak, the mode is being developed jointly by Infinity Ward and Raven, a studio owned by Activision.

The “Gulag” and Other Battle Royale Details

Other details include that the mode will enable 200-player battles, with options for solo, duo, and quad matches. The mode would also include a respawn mechanic which is somewhat different to respawn mechanics in other battle royale games. If your teammates drag your body to an Ambulance, you will enter a Gulag. This area allows players to re-enter the game by winning a 1-on-1 fight, with other Gulag players spectating. Occasional jailbreaks would also allow all Gulag players back into the game. The leak even mentions a betting system for the Gulag fights and an in-game currency called Plunder. For now, fans will have to wait and see how accurate this leak is. After all, Activision are unlikely to confirm anything until closer to the release date. (If, of course, the leak is accurate.)
